FIRE RhYTHYMS
June 2023
Expanded Cinema, Physical Computing
An interactive installation prototype exploring ideas of connection, community, storytelling, and circular tradition. Using Arduino, MaxMSP, weight sensors, video projection, spatial audio, and a self-built set, we created an interactive “fire pit” and sphere of story.
When a new wooden log is placed into the “fire pit”, a new story is projected onto the hanging fabric pillars. The arrangement of the fabric pillars mimicked Stonehenge and is inspired by traditions of circular patterns in storytelling. Along with projections, a soundscape combining natural tones with fireside sounds echoed throughout the space, creating an undertone of the outdoors.
This project served as a low-tech prototype for an installation to be further developed. Take a look at some of the ‘behind the scenes’!
