What Does My Body Know of Magic is a sonic-visual enchantment weaving sound, image, and movement into an exploration of liminality, chronicity, and the spaces between. Combining music, cyanotype animation, and voice, this piece draws on lived experience with chronic health conditions to reflect on embodiment, interconnection, and enchantment. This work asks what insights nonconforming bodies offer into “magic”, perception, and reimagined ways of being.
In this performance, I guide microscopic elements of the body into the air, each correlated with a chronic condition of mine. I honor how they tune me to a sense of interconnectedness, obscuring internal and external. I blend my perspective with ideas from Robert McRuer’s insights on “cripistemologies” and Jane Bennett’s thought on modern enchantment to focus on the profound beauty in liminality and encourage an openness to the in-between. Scored by my research in awe-centered sound design, my body exists as a liminal link, inviting the audience to an enchanted perspective.
