What Does the Body Know of Magic is a sonic-visual enchantment weaving sound, image, and movement into an exploration of liminality, chronicity, and the spaces between. Combining music, cyanotype animation, and voice, this piece draws on lived experience with chronic health conditions to reflect on embodiment, interconnection, and enchantment. This work asks what insights do nonconforming bodies offer into “magic”, perception, and reimagined ways of being.
In this performance, I guide microscopic elements of the body into the air, each correlated with a chronic condition of mine. I honor how they tuned me to a sense of interconnectedness, internal and external. I fuse Robert McRuer’s ideas on “cripistemoliges” with Jane Bennett’s perspective on modern enchantment to focus on the profound beauty in liminality and encourage openness to the in-between. Underscored by my research in awe-centered sound design, my body exists as a liminal link, inviting the audience to an enchanted perspective.
